Introducing the EIZO ColorEdge Creative Range
First, the similarities:
The CS and CG ranges are great for anyone who wants to show the maximum possible size of the colour spectrum at a consistent quality level.
This includes:
- A handpicked 10-bit panel
- larger colour look-up tables (LUTs) (16bit – 24bit)
- IPS LCD panel with 99% coverage of AdobeRGB colour space
- hardware calibration capability
- brightness and colour uniformity correction with DUE technology, and
- EIZO designed logic chip (ASIC) – a very important part which is the monitor’s brain
The CS Range
However, this is where the similarities end.
The CG Range
The CG range has become the preferred option for those working in the creative industry, where the expected norm is a high-end accurate monitor. For this, your monitor needs to have a greater contrast ratio and a special retardation film, providing a more even black level across the screen and reducing the effect of light leakage.
One of the more noticeable features of the CG monitors is that they come complete with a built-in self-calibration sensor. The CS range needs to be calibrated using an external device such as an Eizo EX3 & EX4 or X-rite Display Pro or Spyder compatible models.
Warranty differs slightly between ranges too. While all ColorEdge monitors come with Eizo's industry-leading 5-year warranty, the CG range have an added layer of protection. 5 years or 10,000-hour colour and brightness warranty – this is how confident Eizo are in their product
Within the CG range, there are tiers designed specifically to help you with the work you are using it for. A quick comparison – The mid-range CG2420 and CG2730 with an all-new sleek design are built for professional photographers who require an honest rendition of their image files. Preferring to spend more time behind the camera and less time tuning their editing monitor, they find ‘scheduled self-calibration’ to be a compelling feature.
The flagship CGX range (CG247X, CG279X and CG319X) is equipped with an even higher-level calibration sensor and a 3D-LUT that allows for further improved colour mixing. Both are integral in producing more neutral grey tones, shadow detail and spot colour on-screen rendition - ideal for production. The range offers HDR gamma for previewing HDR content for video content artists. In short, they are great ‘all-around’ monitors.
At the top is the PROMINENCE CG3145 with its 1000 nits HDR panel. This monitor showcases a true visual experience, displaying full bright scenes accurately (this is hard to do in HDR) and no ‘halo’ effect to ensure you always see accurate colours and brightness in every pixel. The CG3145 nails this because it’s being driven by our logic chip and doesn’t need the Auto-Brightness Limiter (ABL), which other HDR OLED monitors are dependent on.
Thanks to its superior features, the CG range remains a favourite among professional photographers, prepress artists and movie/video producers.
